Fablehaven

It is no secret that I LOVE to read. When I find a great book I have a hard time putting it down and end up reading until the early hours (when my husband wakes up and says you're still reading?! go to bed!). And I've been known to re-read books quite a bit (hmph..Twilight). I do tend to read more fantasy, or suspense. Lately, I have had a few friends suggest the Fablehaven series by Brandon Mull. Have you heard of it? I believe it is written more for a younger audience, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy it. =]
The first book starts with 2 kids, Kendra and Seth. They are on their way to spend time with grandparents that they barely know so their parents can go on a cruise. Little do they know that their grandparents are the current caretakers of Fablehaven, a hidden preserve for magical creatures of all kinds--good and bad. They find all sorts of interesting creatures, like naiads, trolls, ogres, fairies, witches, imps, satyrs, and golems. Fablehaven is governed by an ancient treaty with rules and regulations. When certain rules are broken, the preserve is in real danger and the adventure begins. These books are fun, imaginative, adventurous, enchanting, and just a different world to explore. If the books sound interesting or want more info, check them out. They have created a fun website for the series, here.

Honestly, I had a hard time getting through the first book. If you've read the book, maybe you'll understand. The book itself was good, my problem was with one of the characters. Have you ever read a book and just wished you could slap a character across the face?! Let's just say I was openly yelling at this character and shut the book a couple of times cause I was so annoyed. =]Anyway, the 2nd and 3rd book were definitely more entertaining (and the character wasn't as annoying) and I really enjoyed reading them. I look forward to the next adventure when the 4th book comes out in April 09. I may even purchase these book for my own collection in the future, but until then i love the library. =]

The third one was awesome huh? I tried to convince a few friends to go to Fulton MO. to meet Brandon Mull, but we are all poor and have kids to take care of. Oh well. Are you going to read The Candy Shop War?

I've seen these books several times in the library and have meant to check them out. I'll have to make sure I get around to getting them one of these times.
