My First Fondant Cake
My daughter just had her 5th birthday! I love making the cakes for my girls. This year I wanted to try something different -- Fondant. What a process, but so worth it in the end. My daughter wanted a Hello Kitty themed cake. Here are the pics of how I started this crazy process.
1st picture are of the 2 tiers. Each cake is filled with strawberry butter cream frosting, and then I frosting on the outside as well. don't ask how much butter I used...... ;)
2nd picture. I purchased pre-made white fondant and then just kneaded in the coloring. Here are the colors I ended up with.
3rd picture. I have rolled out and started putting the fondant on the cake! ahh! so nerve racking cause you want it just right and smoooothe.
The cakes have been covered with the fondant and stacked.
Last picture. The end result. For a first time using fondant, I think it looks great for a 5yr old cake. :) Just wish I had shared it with more people. After the birthday is kinda took a tumble in the car....whoops.
Thanks to Amy who was more than willing to come help me cut out all those flowers, and then our kids rolled the little balls. My mom was there helping us keep an eye on 4 kids while we put things together. Definitely had fun and can not wait to make the next cake! just need practice..
