Bountiful Basket #4

Been a few weeks since I've signed up for Bountiful Baskets.  That's the gamble of getting these fruits and veggies, you never really know what you're paying for until you get it.  If you love all kinds of fruits and vegetables, then you will love it every week. Since I'm usually picky with both fruits and veggies, there tends to be some that I give to neighbors so it wont go to waste.  I've already given away the cucumber.  Anyway, wanted to share for those that are still unsure about the program. Love the program, love that I pay 16 and get this much fruit and vegetables...just wish it was always full of the stuff I enjoy.

Vegetables: cucumber, white sweet potatoes, little snacking tomatoes, romaine, string beans, celery.

Fruits: peaches, plums, mangoes, banana, little cantalope, strawberries.

Bountiful Basket #3

Bountiful Basket this morning.
I didn't sign up in time for it last weekend....If I wait too long on Monday morning,  all the slots are taken before I get a chance. This week they also had some fun extras you can add on to your basket, like cookies & frosting, hot dogs & buns..all for the 4th of July weekend. My sister got a couple of the extras this week...can not wait to see what she got!

Here's my loot: Green Chard, Broccoli, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Butternut Squash, Carrotts, Red Pears, California Necartines, Red Grapes, and Bananas.

Now time to clean out the fridge for my new produce.

Bountiful Baskets

Why have I not heard of this before! So I'm sharing with my friends.
Bountiful Baskets. This is a co-op, volunteer run, no contracts, no profit, share with everyone deal.  They buy mostly seasonal fruits/veggies at a huge discount, and then distributes evenly with everyone that contributes.  This morning was my test run to see if I could save some money on my produce.  I paid $15, and the below picture is what you see. What do you think??

Here's how it works.  You make a money contribution ($15 for just the one basket..you can add on other things like an additional basket, breads, herbs, they have options) between Monday at noon Mountain Time and Tuesday at 10:00 pm. They pool all the money, then spend it all where the grocery stores shop. The volunteers show up an hour before pickup the next Saturday to help divide up the produce, then at your designated time, show up and take home your produce! You do have to bring your own bags to take them home. I used 2 reusable bags, but most brought laundry baskets. Now the trick is putting it all away..guess I'll be cleaning out my fridge today. lol.

I'm looking forward to this. Gives me an opportunity to try fruits and vegetables I wouldn't normally buy at the store (my husband will be grateful).  Now you know about bountiful baskets. If you're interested in trying it out, check the website for the pick ups near your area.  The pick up closest to me was full by the time I signed up last Monday, but there was another one not too far away that worked perfectly.

**they also have a facebook page if you want to check them out there!
