My favorites part of this season?? Fireworks. bright, exciting (noisy), and colorful. Just a kid at heart? always. But I still love to watch them pop in the sky and twinkle away. Other fun patriotic activities? parades are fun to watch, ok my girls like them for the candy. Do you have bbq's with neighbors? family reunions? carnivals? athletic games? water fights? The Fourth of July is a very fun, social, patriotic holiday.
And a quick history lesson....for those that forgot why we celebrate this holiday: Independence Day celebrates the birthday of the United States of America. On July 4, 1776, the 13 colonies declared their independence from the British Crown of King George III. The Declaration of Independence (remember Thomas Jefferson?) is the statement explaining their decision.
We hold these truths to be self-evident,
that all men are created equal,
that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights,
that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.
